Austin Packers boys basketball team falls to Rochester Mayo 70-65 Thursday evening

The Austin Packers boys basketball team was looking to start the 2024 portion of their schedule on a winning note in Rochester Thursday evening versus the Mayo Spartans, but in a closely contested game throughout, it was the Spartans winning the Big 9 Conference matchup on their home floor, 70-65.

Sophomore guard Cole Hebrink drilled five of Austin’s 11 3-point field goals for the contest and led all scorers with 26 points, Dakota Retterath was also in double figures with 13 points, Peyton Ransom posted 11 points, Isaac Osgood swished three 3’s for nine points, and Mikah Christopherson added a pair of 3’s for six points.

With the loss, the Packers are now 1-8 overall on the season, and 1-5 in the Big 9 Conference.  Austin returns to action Saturday night in Kasson versus the Komets of Kasson-Mantorville in a Section 1AAA matchup, with the opening tap set for 7 pm.
