Austin Packers boys’ basketball team downs Winona 41-35 at Packer Gym Tuesday evening

The Austin Packers boys’ basketball team was in action for the first time since February 8th Tuesday night as they played host to the Winona Winhawks at Packer Gym, and although the Packers shot only 32% from the field, they registered six 3-pointers and were 9 for 12 from the free throw line as they held off Winona 41-35 to sweep the regular-season series.
Austin led 26-15 at the half and were led by Emmanuel Manyoun, who tallied 17 points, four rebounds, three assists and four steals. Teyghan Hovland was also in double figures with 13 points, two assists and a steal, Gage Manahan registered five points, four rebounds and three assists, Victor Idris added four points, plus he led the Packers in rebounds with five and blocked shots with three, and Casey Berg chipped in two points in the win for Austin, who now sits at 7-2 on the season, and the Packers are in a four-way tie for second place in the Big 9 Conference with Mankato East, Owatonna and Rochester Century behind first-place Mankato West at 8-1. The Scarlets’ lone loss of the season was in Austin January 23rd by a score of 61-52.
Austin is back in action Friday night in Rochester versus the Mayo Spartans, with the B-Squad tip-off at 6:00 p.m., and the varsity tap at 7:30 p.m.
