Austin Packers boys basketball routs Red Wing in season opener Saturday evening 60-20

The Austin Packers boys’ basketball team opened the 2020-2021 campaign at home Saturday evening against Big 9 Conference foe Red Wing, and after taking a 10-6 lead early in the first half on a runner by Gage Manahan, the Packers closed the half on a 20-0 run to break the game wide open on their way to a 60-20 win.

Emmanuel Manyuon, who opened the second half with a pair of 3’s to give Austin a 36-9 lead led three Packers in double figures with 13 points.  Okey Okey, a returning starter from last season for the Packers added 12 points and Teyghan Hovland, another veteran back from last season for Austin tallied 11 points.  Victor Idris added nine points in the post for the Packers, while Gage Manahan chipped in six points, and Jordan Ransom and Kaden Murkey each added five.

Austin opens up with a 1-0 record, and the Packers return to the hardwood in Faribault Tuesday night for a matchup with the Falcons.  The B-Squad game will tip off at 6:00 p.m., followed by the varsity at 7:30 p.m.
