Austin Packers boys’ basketball routs Albert Lea 94-34

In Austin Packers boys’ basketball you heard on AM 1480 KAUS Tuesday evening, the Packers were looking for their fourth win in a row in Albert Lea Tuesday evening versus the Tigers, and Austin used a 20-0 first half run to break open what was then a close game on their way to a 94-34 rout.

The Packers jumped out to a 12-0 lead before Albert Lea countered with a 10-0 run of their own to cut the deficit to only two points.  The Packers, though, then ratcheted up their game, especially defensively where they forced 22 of the Tiger’s 28 turnovers for the game in the first half on their way to the 20-0 run to take a 32-10 lead, and they pushed their lead to 55-18 at the half on their way to the win.

Emmanuel Manyoun led four players in double figures for Austin with 15 points, Okey Okey added 11 points in the win, and Kaden Murkey and Teyghan Hovland each chipped in 10 points.  13 Packers overall scored in the game, including Gage Manahan with nine points, Jordan Ransom chipped in eight points, Victor Idris added seven points and Junior Ledji and Cham Okey each tallied five points for the Packers, who were 25 of 36 from the free throw line compared 6 of 12 for Albert Lea.  Austin also came up with 20 steals in the game and outrebounded the Tigers 34-21.

With the win, Austin is now 9-2 overall on the season and 9-2 in the Big 9 Conference.  The Packers are back in action at Packer Gym Friday night versus Faribault, with the varsity tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
