Austin Packers boys basketball falls to Northfield 76-60 Thursday evening

The Austin Packers boys basketball team kicked off the 2023 portion of their schedule in Northfield Thursday night versus the Raiders in a Big 9 Conference matchup, and it was the Raiders doubling up the Packers in the first half to lead 46-23 at the half on their way to a 76-60 win.

Northfield was 33 for 56 from 2-point field goal range in the game for 59%, plus they were 5 for 13 from behind the 3-point line for 38%, and although Austin had more steals (11 to 2) and blocked seven shots to none for Northfield, the Raiders forced 18 Packer turnovers in the game, while committing nine of their own.  Senior guard Jack Lang led Austin in scoring Thursday evening with four 3-pointers and 14 points for the game, Jacob Herrick was also in double figures with 13 points, guard A’Triel Terry scored eight points, plus he pulled in a team-high six rebounds and blocked two shots, guard Manny Guy also scored eight points, plus he added an assist and a steal, guard Ater Manyuon chipped in seven points, four rebounds, three assists, one steal and two blocked shots, forward Buai Duop tallied six points, three rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot, guard Morries Jabateh scored three points, Isaac Osgood added two points and Otong Nyikew scored one point in the loss Thursday evening.

With the loss, Austin is now 5-3 on the season and 3-2 in the Big 9 Conference, and the Packers are back in action next Tuesday at home versus Winona, with the varsity tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
