Austin Packers boys basketball falls at Mankato East 86-65 Tuesday evening

The Austin Packers boys basketball team, the No. 8 team in the state in the first Class AAA poll of the season from the Minnesota Basketball News traveled to Mankato Tuesday evening to take on the East Cougars, the No. 9 team in the first Class AAA poll, and it was the Cougars outscoring the Packers 51-25 in the first half on their way to an 86-65 win.

Forward Buai Duop led Austin in scoring Tuesday evening with 21 points, plus he also led the club in rebounds with six, and he also added an assist, Jacob Herrick totaled 12 points, three rebounds, one assist and one steal, senior guard Jack Lang was also in double figures as he swished four 3-pointers for 12 points, guard Ater Manyuon chipped in nine points, one rebound and two assists, Manny Guy totaled five points, Atriel Terry contributed four points, three rebounds and two assists, and Isaac Osgood scored two points for the Packers, while Mankato East’s Carson Schweim led all scorers with 28 points.

Austin is now 1-1 on the young season, and the Packers are back in action next Tuesday night for their home opener versus Red Wing, with the varsity tip-off at 7:30 p.m.  You’ll hear the game on AM 1480 KAUS, myaustinminnesota.com and on the I Heart Radio and radio.com apps, with the pre-game show getting underway at 7:15 p.m.
