Austin Packers boys basketball downs Winona 76-57 Tuesday evening

The Austin Packers boys basketball team was looking to bounce back from a loss at Northfield last Thursday versus the Winona Winhawks at Packer Gym Tuesday evening, and guard Ater Manyuon piled up 26 points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal to help lead the Packers to a 76-57 win.

Austin led 34-28 at the half and won despite committing 26 turnovers to 11 for Winona.  The Packers, though, dominated the 3-point shooting category by going 10 for 22 for a blistering 45%, compared to 2 for 12 for the Winhawks for only 17%, and Austin also outrebounded Winona 26-24 and tallied 18 assists to eight for the Winhawks on their way to the win.

Besides Manyuon’s 26 points, forward Buai Duop was also in double figures in scoring with 17 points, plus he also pulled in five rebounds, guard Manny Guy was also in double figures with 12 points, Jacob Herrick tallied five points, a team-high five assists and a steal, Ben Diang added four points and two rebounds, guard Jack Lang buried a 3-pointer for three points in the game, plus he added five rebounds, three assists and a blocked shot, Morries Jabateh also scored three points and added three assists, A’Triel Terry tallied two points off the bench for the Packers and added a team-high eight rebounds, two assists and a steal, and Isaac Osgood and Dane Mitchell both scored two points apiece in the win.

With the win, the Packers are now 6-3 overall and 4-2 in the Big 9 Conference, and Austin returns to action in Rochester Friday night versus the Mayo Spartans, with the varsity tip-off at 7:30 p.m. that evening.
