Austin Packers boys’ basketball downs Rochester John Marshall 69-34

In a game you heard from Packer Gym Tuesday evening on AM 1480 KAUS, Victor Idris piled up 14 points,  three rebounds, three assists,  two steals and a blocked shot to help lead the Austin Packers boys’ basketball team past Rochester John Marshall 69-34 for their sixth win in a row, and seventh in their last eight games.

Austin jumped out to a 9-0 lead to start the game, and after a John Marshall time out, the Packers proceeded to go on a 14-5 run to open up a 23-5 lead, and they pushed their advantage to 21 at the half at 39-18 on their way to the win.  Not only did Austin hit five 3-point field goals in the game, they were 29-56 from the field for 52%, and their patented pressure defense came up with 13 steals and forced 20 John Marshall turnovers.

Besides Idris’s 14 points, Emmanuel Manyoun tallied 12 points, two rebounds, two assists and three steals, Okey Okey added 10 points, four rebounds, three assists and one steal, Jordan Ransom chipped in nine points, three assists, three steals and a blocked shot off the Austin bench, and Teyghan Hovland added eight points, three rebounds and two steals in the win for the Packers, which improved their record to 9-2 in the Big 9 Conference and 11-2 overall on the season.

Austin will face a stern test in their next game Thursday night in Mankato versus the West Scarlets, whose only loss thus far this season came at the hands of Austin back on January 23rd. Varsity tip-off Thursday night is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
