Austin Packers boys’ basketball downs Albert Lea 72-26 in Section 1AAA quarterfinals

The Austin Packers boys’ basketball team, the No. 1 seed in the Section 1AAA boys’ basketball tournament played host to eighth-seeded Albert Lea in the section quarterfinals at Packer Gym Wednesday evening, and Okey Okey swished six of the Packers’s 10 3-point field goals on his way to 20 points as Austin led 48-17 at the half on their way to a 72-26 opening round win.

Okey added three rebounds, one steal and one assist in the win for the Packers, while Emmanuel Manyoun added 14 points, three rebounds, one assist and four steals, Dieth Duop chipped in 10 points, five boards, two steals, one assist and one block, Teyghan Hovland tallied nine points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals, Victor Idris was back in action for Austin Wednesday night and tallied seven points, while Jordan Ransom supplied five points, Kaden Murkey added four points and Casey Berg scored three points for the Packers, who won their eleventh game in a row.

With the win, Austin is now 16-2 on the season, and they will host No. 5 seed Kasson/Mantorville in the Section 1AAA semi-finals Saturday night at Packer Gym at 7 p.m.  The fifth-seeded Komets knocked out No. 4 seed Simley Wednesday night 59-49.  You’ll hear the game live Saturday night on AM 1480 KAUS, with the Austin Packers pre-game show getting underway at 6:45 p.m., and the tip-off at 7 p.m.  You can also listen live worldwide via our website at myaustinminnesota.com, and also on the I Heart Radio and Radio.com apps.
