Austin Packers baseball team falls to Owatonna 5-1 in 2023 season opener

The Austin Packers baseball team started their 2023 season on the road at Dartts Park in Owatonna Tuesday versus the Huskies in a Big 9 Conference matchup, and it was the Huskies coming away with a 5-1 win.

The Packers rapped out five hits in the game, led by Isaac Stromlund, who went 2 for 2 and knocked in the only run of the game for Austin, Dakota Retterath was 1 for 3 with a double, and Nick Robertson and Kody Blom were both 1 for 3.

Robertson got the start on the mound for the Packers and pitched the first four innings, giving up four runs, all earned, on four hits, striking out three and walking four, and Sam Oelfke pitched the final two innings for Austin and gave up one run, which was unearned, on one hit, striking out two and walking none.
Head Coach Jacob Nelson noted that the Packers played a good game and had just as many hits as Owatonna in the contest, as the 0-1 Packers will be back in action for their home opener Saturday afternoon versus Winona, with first pitch at Dick Seltz Field at 12:00 p.m.
