Austin Packer boys’ basketball team downs Milwaukee Washington in Border Battle 82-53

The Austin Packers boys’ basketball team took on Milwaukee Washington in the Border Battle in LaCrosse, Wisconsin Saturday, and Okey Okey led four Packers in double figures with 19 points as Austin jumped out to a 22-6 lead on their way to an 82-53 win.

Besides Okey’s 19 points, Agwa Nywesh scored 13 points, Moses Idris added 11 points and his brother Victor chipped in 10 for the Packers, who went on to lead at the half 40-20 after jumping out to the quick start.  Teyghan Hovland, Emanuel Manyuon and Jacob Venega all added six points apiece in the victory, while Pierre Lilly and Emanuel Manyuon each scored five points and Casey Berg contributed four for Austin, who moved to 16-3 overall on the season with the win.

Besides Austin, the tournament also included Minnesota teams Lake City, the No. 3 team in the state in Class AA who routed Brookfield Academy 99-68, Spring Grove, who fell to Stratford 60-39, fellow Big 9 team Rochester Mayo, who outgunned Eau Clarie North 93-80, Mahtomedi, who edged Kaukauna 69-68, Minnehaha Academy, the No. 1 team in the state in Class AAA who defeated LaCrosse Central 73-64 and Lakeville North, who fell to Onalaska 60-44.

Austin returns to action in the Big 9 Conference Tuesday night in Rochester against the John Marshall Rockets, with varsity tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
