Austin man sentenced to supervised probation, jail time on assault of a peace officer and DWI charges in Mower County District Court

An Austin man who pleaded guilty to a felony charge for assaulting a peace officer stemming from a traffic stop for a suspected DWI on March 20th has been sentenced to supervised probation and time in the sentence to service program in Mower County District Court.

27-year old Jorge Antonio Angeles Contreras was convicted and sentenced Friday to two years of supervised probation and 40 hours in the sentence to service program for a felony charge of 4th degree assault of a peace officer, demonstrable bodily harm.  A prison term of a year and a day was stayed for two years if Contreras complies with the terms of his probation, and Contreras was also convicted and sentenced Friday to 48 days in jail for a misdemeanor charge of 4th degree DWI, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.  Contreras was given credit for 48 days already served, and he first pleaded guilty to the charges on April 18th.

A gross misdemeanor charge against Contreras in the case for giving a peace officer a false name, and misdemeanor charges for fleeing a peace officer by means other than a motor vehicle and for driving without a valid license in the case were dismissed with Contreras’s guilty pleas.
