An Austin man accused of throwing a stolen 9 mm handgun out of a vehicle he was driving just before a traffic stop in the Austin Municipal Airport parking lot late on the evening of December 20th, 2018 has been sentenced to prison time in Mower County District Court.

25-year old Edbin Jose Coreas was sentenced to five years in prison for a felony charge of being a violent felon in possession of firearm ammunition, as a magazine containing six rounds of ammunition was found during the traffic stop.  A felony charge of being a violent felon in possession of a firearm in the case was dismissed.  Coreas had pleaded not guilty to both charges in June of 2019, and he was convicted on the charge of being a violent felon in possession of firearm ammunition in November of 2020.
