High school football and volleyball seasons in Minnesota have been moved from this fall to next spring.  The Minnesota State High School League’s Board of Directors voted Tuesday to make the switch in an effort to reduce the potential for spread of COVID-19 and enhance the safety of everyone involved.  KAUS News spoke with Lisa Quednow, Activities Director for Austin Schools who talked about her initial reaction to the high school league’s decision…

Quednow went on to talk about health protocols that will be put in place and schedule changes for cross country, soccer, girls’ swimming and diving, and girls’ tennis, which will go on as planned this fall with a practice start date of August 17th….

Quednow stated that although their seasons have been moved to next spring, football and volleyball teams will be allowed to practice this fall…

 

Quednow went on to state that the high school league is tentatively looking to run the football and volleyball seasons from mid-March into May, with spring sports then being moved to late May into July…

The decisions come amid the coronavirus pandemic, which has seen three-dozen states delay the return of fall sports, including Minnesota neighbors Wisconsin and Iowa.
