Austin cross country teams compete at Section 1AA meet in Owatonna
The Austin cross country team was unable to advance any athletes to the state meet when the Packer girls took 12th and the Packer boys finished 14th at the 17-team Section 1AA meet in Owatonna Thursday.
In the boys competition, Farmington took first with 75 points, followed by Rochester Century with 93, then Winona was third with 102, followed by Faribault in fourth 138 points and Lakeville South rounded out the top five with 149. Alex Petrik ran the best time for Austin as he was 54th with a time of 17:36.9.
In the girls competition, Farmington was first again with only 39 points, a lopsided winner over second place Lakeville South with 94. Owatonna was third with 167 points, followed by Rochester Century in fourth with 168 points and Northfield was fifth with 174 points. Nadia Vaughn took 21st with a time of 19:45.5 to lead the way for the Packers, and teammate Marissa Schute was 29th with a time of 20:10.7.
