Brady Sowder and Shawn Lehtinen each tallied two goals and three assists for a combined 10 points to help lead the Minnesota River Bulldogs over the Austin Packers 7-1 Tuesday night at Riverside Arena.

Minnesota River jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first period, with goals three and four coming only :21 apart.  The lone goal of the game for the Packers was a tally by defenseman Nick Dunlap with only :30 left in the period, with an assist to Cal Fox to cut the Bulldog lead to 4-1 at the end of one.

Sowder scored only :43 into the second period to increase Minnesota River’s lead to 5-1, and Charlie Weick, who scored two goals in the game tallied at 3:57 to make the score 6-1 at the end of two.  Lehtinen’s power play goal at 7:08 of the third, the second for the Bulldogs in three chances in the game provided the final 7-1 score.

Sam Eyre made 34 saves in facing 41 shots in net for Austin, while Logan Moe turned aside 22 of the 23 shots he faced between the pipes for Minnesota River for the win.

Austin is now 1-10 overall on the season, and the Packers are back into action in the Big 9 Conference Thursday night at Northfield against the Raiders, with varsity face-off at 7:15 p.m.
