Austin 17U baseball team falls to Red Wing Monday evening 10-8
The Austin 17U baseball team was on the road Monday evening for a Southern Minny League matchup with Red Wing, who scored early and often, and held off an Austin rally late in the game to win 10-8.
Austin led 1-0 after a half inning when Red Wing blasted out of the gate with four in the bottom of the first and four more in the bottom of the second to lead 8-1. Austin halved the lead at 8-4 with three runs in the top of the fourth, but Red Wing countered with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead for good, as it turned out, at 10-4. Austin tried to rally late in the game with one in the fifth and three in the top of the 7th, but Red Wing was able to hang on for the win.
Ausitn belted out 10 hits in the game, led by Bray Klapperick, Jake Truckenmiller, Logan Murphy and Kody Blom, who all had two hits apiece, and Murphy and Blom knocked in a run apiece. Brayden Bishop was 1 for 2 with 2 RBI’s, Blake Smith was 1 for 4 with a run driven in and Mac Nelson also tallied a RBI in the game for Austin, who falls to 1-2 on the young season.
Austin returns to action Thursday night in Faribault, with first pitch at 6 p.m.
