Area playoff girls’ basketball roundup from Monday evening
The Southland Rebels, the No. 7 seed in the Section 1A girls’ basketball tournament was looking to knock off No. 2 Fillmore Central Monday night at Rochester Lourdes High School, but it was the Falcons pulling away late to edge the Rebels 58-50.
Lexi Smith led the way in scoring for Southland with 16 points, while Larissa Goslee added 11 points, Bailey Johnson scored eight points and Kelsey Mensink and Hattie Wiste added six apiece for the Rebels, who finish their season with a record of 12-12.
Fillmore Central will next face the No. 6 seeded Grand Meadow Superlarks, who used 20 points from Riley Queensland and 11 from Rylee Groom to upend the No. 3 seeded Houston Hurricanes 49-45 in the second game Monday evening at Lourdes High School. River Landers added six points, while Isabelle Olson and Madison Hindt each chipped in five points for Grand Meadow, who avenged a 39-32 loss to the Hurricanes back on December 21st at the Southeast Conference Invitational at the Rochester Civic Center.
