It was a battle of state-ranked powers in Class 9-man football in LeRoy Friday night as the Cardinals, the Number two team in the state played host to Number three-ranked Southland.  In the end, it was the Cardinals staying unbeaten on the season as they downed the Rebels 26-21.

For the Cardinals, Chase Johnson was 11 of 27 through the air for 88 yards,  two touchdowns and an interception.  His favorite target was Riley Olson, who caught three passes for 56 yards and a touchdown, plus he also carried the ball three times for 10 yards and another touchdown.  Isaac Collier tallied one catch for 10 yards and a touchdown, while  Carter and Chase Johnson led the Cardinal ground game as Chase carried the ball 17 times for 82 yards and Chase nine times for 82 yards.

For Southland, Harrison Hannah passing was 8 of 21 for 117 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.  Dan Boe led the Rebels in receiving with two catches for 57 yards, and Donavon Felten helped to lead Southland in rushing by carrying the ball 10 times for 29 yards, while Nick Bon toted the pigskin 10 times for 19 yards and a touchdown.

LeRoy/Ostrander will take a 5-0 record into their game Friday night in Heron Lake against Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda.  4-1 Southland will play host to Lanesboro in Adams.

In Lyle, the Athletics of Lyle/Pacelli played host to Mabel/Canton for Homecoming, and it was a joyus homecoming celebration indeed as Jed Nelson’s 15-yard touchdown pass to Zach Bollingberg with 10:19 to go in the game helped to seal a 30-18 win and an end to a 31-game losing streak.

Nelson passing in the game was 14 for 26 for 250 yards and two touchdowns, and Cole Walter was 1 for 1 passing for 7 yards and another score.  Bollingberg had a monster game receiving as he pulled in five passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns, and Nelson led LP in rushing, carrying the ball 25 times for 102 yards.

The Athletics move to 1-4 on the season, and they are back in action Friday night in Spring Valley against Kingsland.

In Blooming Prairie, the Number-3 ranked Blossoms in Class A entertained the unbeaten Randolph Rockets, and it was the Blossoms blowing things wide open with a 28-point blitzkrieg in the second quarter to cruise to a 62-15 win.

Blooming Prairie, who led by only five at 13-8 at the end of one quarter was led in passing by Kaden Thomas, who was a sharp 15-20 for 180 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.  Alex Baldwin hauled in six passes for 85 yards and a touchdown, and Matthew Prior had a huge game rushing for BP as he carried the ball nine times for 132 yards and four touchdowns.

Bloooming Prairie moves to 5-0 on the season with the win, and they will play host to Kenyon/Wanamingo Friday night at 7:00 p.m.

The Hayfield Vikings were on the road last Friday night as they traveled to Winona St. University to take on the Ramblers of Winona Cotter, and it was the Vikings rolling by the Ramblers via a shutout 41-0.

Dawson Andrew’s 2-yard touchdown run in the first half put the Vikings ahead 14-0, and Ethan Slaathaug picked off a Rambler pass and returned it 75 yards to set up a 10-yard TD pass from Brady Nelson to Luke Dudycha to put the Vikings up 20-0 with 4:49 left in the first half.

Hayfield put things away in the second half when Carter Kyllo dashed 58 yards for a touchdown and Karver Heydt had a 9-yard touchdown run of his own.

Nelson passing in the game was 15 of 22 for 250 yards and three touchdowns, while Jake Risius caught three passes for an astonishing 127 yards, or 42.3 yards per reception and a score.  Kyllo led Hayfield in rushing with 12 carries for 102 yards and the touchdown, while Heydt tallied the one carry for nine yards and a touchdown.  Dawson Andree chipped in with four carries for 33 yards and a score for the 3-2 Vikings, who will play host to Fillmore Central Friday night.
