The Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms boys’ basketball team got to take to the parquet floor at Target Center Saturday against a strong Goodhue Wildcat squad, and in a half-court game that featured no easy baskets, the Wildcats, who are one of the top teams in the Hiawatha Valley League and Section 1AA moved to 15-3 on the season with a 40-34 win.

The Blossoms, the No. 10 team in the state in the latest Class A poll suffered only their second loss of the season.  Zach Weber was the only Blooming Prairie player in double figures with 12 points, while Karson Vigeland, Parker Vaith and Luke Larkoski each added five points apiece.  Drew Kittelson chipped in four points and Isaac Ille added three for the Blossoms, who are now 14-2 on the season and return to action this evening in Spring Valley against Kingsland, with the varsity tip-off at 7:15 p.m.

The Hayfield Vikings were in action at the Kasson/Mantorville Showcase Saturday versus Minneota, and Hayfield drilled 14 3-pointers in 24 attempts to break a school record for most 3’s in one game in an 84-56 rout of the Vikings.

Ethan Slaathaug swished four of the 3-pointers and scored 26 points while teammage Isaac Matti drilled five 3’s on his way to 20 points.  Patrick Towey was also in double figures in scoring with 19 points and Luke Dudycha added nine points in the lopsided win for Hayfield, who moved to 14-4 on the season with the win.  The Vikings are back into action Tuesday night in Adams versus Southland, with the varsity tip at 7:30 p.m.
