Area boys basketball action from Thursday evening

The LeRoy/Ostrander Cardinals were looking to get back on the winning track Thursday evening as they played host to the Schaeffer Academy Lions in the Southeast Conference, and Camden Hungerholt went off for 40 points and seven rebounds as the Cardinals decked the Lions 71-46.

Hungerholt drained three of LeRoy/Ostrander’s seven 3-pointers in the game on his way to the 40-point total, and Reid Hungerholt added 15 points, Ryder Stern swished a pair of 3’s for six points, and Carter Sweeney and Spencer Goodale both scored five points, with Goodale added seven rebounds, a team high.

With the win, the Cardinals are now 3-2 overall on the season and 3-0 in the Southeast Conference, and they are back in action next Tuesday at home versus defending Section 1A champion Spring Grove, with the varsity tip-off scheduled for 7:15 p.m. that evening.

In Houston, the Southland Rebels were gunning for win number four in a row as they took on the Hurricanes in the Southeast Conference, and it was the Rebels sprinting out to a 37-19 halftime lead on their way to a 58-34 win.

Nick Edland and Jonas Wiste were both in double figures in scoring for Southland Thursday evening, as Edland finished with 17 points, and Wiste totaled 15 points, Riley Jax and Gavin Nelson both totaled eight points apiece, Kaleb Yunke scored four points, and Maverick Hanna tallied two points in win.

After an opening loss to Rushford-Peterson, the Rebels are now 4-1 overall on the season and 3-0 in the conference, and Southland returns to action at home versus Lanesboro next Monday evening, with the varsity tip-off scheduled for 7:15 p.m.

The Grand Meadow Superlarks were in search of their first win of the season Thursday night as they traveled to Mabel-Canton to take on the Cougars in the Southeast Conference, but it was the host Cougars coming out on top by a score of 74-49.

Logan Grafe drilled a pair of 3-pointers on his way to 12 points to lead Grand Meadow in scoring Thursday evening, Carter Glynn added nine points, Cohen Craft swished two 3-pointers and tallied eight points, Tyler Reid totaled six points, Keaton Gehling and Graham Eastlee each scored five points, and Landen Ritter added four points in the loss.

The Superlarks are now 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the Southeast Conference, and they are back on the court this evening (Friday) versus Houston, with the varsity tip-off at 7:15 p.m.
