An Albert Lea woman was killed Friday when her vehicle rolled into a drainage ditch in rural Freeborn County.

The accident occurred at approximately 11:13 a.m. Friday morning on County Road 30 about a quarter mile south of 200th Street.

The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office reported that 74-year old Joyce Chapek was driving her Ford Explorer north on County Road 30 when she lost control on the icy road, went into the east ditch and rolled.. First responders could not initially see anyone inside the vehicle because it was submerged in water. 

Chapek was pronounced dead at the scene.

Glenville Fire and Rescue and Mayo Clinic Ambulance assisted the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office at the accident scene.
