Adams man sentenced to supervised probation on felony charge of attempting to disarm a police officer

An Adams man who was arrested after a property damage report at an apartment complex on Schmitz Street in Adams on August 22nd 2020 turned violent has been sentenced to supervised probation and time in the sentence to service program in Mower County District Court.

48-year old Joel Paul Donaldson was convicted and sentenced Thursday to five years of supervised probation and 40 hours in the sentence to service program for a felony charge of attempting to disarm a peace officer, take defensive device from a peace officer in an area controlled by officers.  A 13-month prison sentence was stayed for five years if Donaldson complies with the terms of his probation, and he first pleaded guilty to the charge in October of 2021.

Felony charges for 2nd degree assault with a dangerous weapon and 4th degree assault on a peace officer, demonstrable bodily harm, plus a misdemeanor for obstructing the legal process, interfering with a peace officer in the case were all dismissed with Donaldson’s guilty plea.
