MCHS reevaluating the timing of transitioning labor and delivery services from Albert Lea to Austin

Mayo Clinic Health System continues to prepare for the transition of childbirth services from its campus in Albert Lea to the campus in Austin, but the organization is now reevaluating the timing of the transition with the possibility of consolidating labor and delivery in Austin earlier than originally planned.  KAUS News spoke with Dr. Sumit Bhagra, Medical Director of Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin and Albert Lea who gave the reasons for the reevaluation…

Dr. Bhagra went on state that more specifics will be available in July, and he added that Mayo will continue to work closely with their patients and families to make sure they have a very positive birthing experience.  A new Family Birth Center is under construction in Austin offering 10 large labor and delivery rooms with private baths, an expanded operating room for cesarean sections and other surgical needs, a well-baby nursery, a large waiting area for families and additional shell space for future expansion. Plans are on track to complete the new unit in 2020.
