Expansion to Mayo Clinic Health System Campus in Austin announced

Mayo Clinic Health System, Austin and Albert Lea have announced an $11.2 million plan to create a third-floor family birth center and a two-story connecting link between the main clinic entrance and the hospital at the Austin campus.

Dr. Sumit (Soo-mit) Bhagra, Medical Director for Mayo Clinic Health System, Austin and Albert Lea also spoke at the news conference and stated that the project reiterates Mayo’s commitment to rural health care in the Austin and Albert Lea communities, and he also gave details of the third-floor family birth center…

Bhagra went on to talk about the details and advantages of the two-story connecting link between the main clinic entrance and the hospital on the Austin campus…

Dr. Ciota gave some preliminary details at the news conference about a renovation project on the facility’s second floor…

Construction will take place throughout 2019 and 2020, and officials stated in a news release that the construction of the two large, integrated units will allow Mayo Clinic Health System to complete the transition of inpatient services from Albert Lea to Austin by 2020 as planned.
