Pizza is good. Gelato is good. But pizza gelato?
In New York’s East Village, Bruno Pizza NYC is hoping people will be willing to scoop up their pizza/gelato mash-up.
Technically it is pizza crust that is putting the flavor into the gelato. Caramelized pizza crust is soaked in gelato base overnight to infuse the base with the pizza crust flavor. The big chunks of crust are then strained out and the remaining base is spun and frozen until creamy.
How does it taste? Owner Demian Repucci says it is a malty and toasty flavor, adding, “It’s sort of in the genre of Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal.
