165 additional COVID-19 cases recorded in Mower County Wednesday for cumulative total of 8,890

Mower County logged 8,548 confirmed and 342 probable COVID-19 cases Wednesday for a cumulative total of 8,890 since the onset of the pandemic, a jump of 165 from Tuesday, according to statistics released Wednesday by the Minnesota Department of Health.  Pam Kellogg, Division Manager with Mower County Health and Human Services reported that there are approximately 450 positive cases currently in the county, but she added that the actual number could be much higher due to home testing and cases not being reported to the Minnesota Department of Health.  Kellogg also noted that the omicron variant of the virus is now the dominant strain in the county.

Olmsted County recorded 28,251 cumulative cases Wednesday, a rise of 518 from Tuesday, Steele County reported 7,975 cumulative cases Wednesday, up 62 from Tuesday and Freeborn County confirmed 6,809 cumulative COVID-19 cases Wednesday, up 48 from Tuesday.  Dodge County now has 4,249 cumulative cases, a rise of 43 from Tuesday and Fillmore County recorded 3,647 cumulative COVID-19 cases Wednesday, up 18 from Tuesday.

The Minnesota Department of Health reported 10,7190 positive COVID-19 tests in the state Wednesday for a cumulative total of 1,092,035, and they added that 49 additional COVID-19 related deaths were reported in the state from Tuesday to Wednesday for a cumulative total of 10,887 since the onset of the pandemic.  A total of 52,953 COVID-19 patients in Minnesota have required hospitalization since the start of the pandemic, and 10,216 of those patients have required treatment in intensive care units.
