Up to $1.25 million in federal funding is available to assist Mower County small businesses, nonprofits and animal agricultural producers who have suffered financially from the COVID-19 pandemic.  KAUS News spoke with Mower County Administrator Trish Harren, who stated that the funds are a portion of just over $4.9 million allocated to the county under the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security, or CARES Act…

Mower County is partnering with the Development Corporation of Austin to administer the funds, and Harren stated that online applications are now available, and she also talked about when, once approved, business and nonprofits should receive grant funding….

Harren stated that a set of criteria has been set up to prioritize the applications that are received…

Grants of up to $10,000 will help entities cover payroll, rent, mortgage payments, utility bills and operations expenses, including cleaning and disinfecting supplies as well as personal protective equipment since March 1st.  John Garry from the Development Corporation of Austin stated that businesses that applied for the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development grant program, but were not selected are encouraged to apply for the Mower County program.  Applications must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. on Monday, August 31st.
